Job Description – Assembly Lead

Overview

The Assembly Lead is a full-time, technical level lead role. This position reports to the Plant Manager, and its main function is to manage the members of the Assembly team and to ensure that the members of the team are properly trained.

This position requires a professional who is able to manage a team’s workload and schedule while seeking out instruction and direction as needed.

Responsibilities

  • The primary responsibility of the Assembly Lead is to learn, successfully execute, train on, and manage all aspects of the TrimJoist® Assembly process. The Assembly Team Lead is responsible for members of the Assembly department.
  • Perform general assembly work at the production department as needed to support plant operations such as all duties associated with front end, back end, gluing and wrapping the joists.
  • Front End duties include: stocking diagonal webs and blocks at the assembly table, staging incoming boards, gluing/assembling built-up end webs with incoming boards, operating press machine, transferring finished frame product to holding zone, placing of frame into the gantry, precise placement of diagonal webs, blocks and metal plates into the frame, switching on and off roller press, transferring product from one side of gantry to the other
  • Back end duties include: precise placement of metal plates onto the frame, switching on and off roller press, transferring product to the chain deck, banding and stapling wrap around finished product
  • Special requirements of this role is lifting the completed joist up to 100 lbs with a team member, and ability to wear eye protection
  • In conjunction with Plant Manager, train and coach Assembly team members on proper and safe use of equipment as well as provide constructive performance feedback, create goals and objectives for department, track staff schedules and attendance
  • Reviewing and executing all necessary tasks (stocking plates / wood / etc) based off of the daily production paperwork received by the Plant Manager each morning
  • Quality assurance on all assembled TrimJoist® inclusive but not limited to equal number of webs, correct plate sizing and placement at joints, and more.
  • Collaborate and work with other Team Leads from other departments for daily production efficiency
  • Maintaining a clean department and ensuring daily clean up
  • Follow all safety and operational procedures (special requirement of this role is lifting the completed joist with other team members)
  • Become a subject matter expert on capabilities of the equipment including proper use, potential safety hazards, and troubleshooting
  • Operate a forklift to maneuver material around work site
  • May perform other duties at other workstations as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred
  • Must be age 18 or older
  • Current, valid Idaho Drivers License and satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to become forklift certified
  • At least two years of supervisory or team lead experience
  • At least two years manufacturing, warehouse or machine shop
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members
  • Proficiency in the English language and general usage
  • Experience with both manual and power equipment and tools
  • Knowledge of basic worksite safety, OSHA, and HAZMAT standards
  • Knowledge of general manufacturing practices and procedures

Beneficial Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • At least one year manufacturing, warehouse or machine shop
  • Experience reading blueprints
  • Basic math proficiency (specifically experience quantifying and reporting on production by department)
  • Ability to work independently or within a team
  • Demonstrated dependability, attendance, and punctuality

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, climbing; all for either brief or extended periods of time
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of items up to 100 lbs
  • Use of manual dexterity of limbs sufficient to safely fulfill duties
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, clients and vendors
  • Ability to operate machinery, vehicles, and work site equipment
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and electronics
