Job Function:
The primary function of the Counselor is to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance for the school, including counseling services. The Counselor will create a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Principal.
- Provides consultation to administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents regarding the academic and personal social needs of students.
- Collaborates with campus RtI and SST teams in facilitating interventions or strategies to remove barriers to students’ academic success.
- Oversees the implementation of campus level character and behavior education and intervention programs.
- Collaborates with teachers to incorporate guidance related information into existing curriculum.
- Plans and implements school guidance and counseling programs to ensure they meet identified needs.
- Teaches school development guidance curriculum to students.
- Provide individual and/or group counseling for students in need.
- Onsite regular attendance.
- Uses an effective referral process to refer students that need special programs or services.
- Models behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Maintains a variety of student data records and communicates data to students, teachers, and parents as needed.
- Assists teachers and students as needed, in the design, implementation, and support of student’s behavior management plans.
- Assists students and parents in transitioning to and planning for middle school and high school.
- Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the guidance and counseling area.
- Complies with all district and campus policies and procedures.
- Maintains a positive and effective relationship with administration, staff, students, and parents.
- Supervises campus operations in the absence of the campus principal and vice principal.

- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.- Master’s degree.
- Valid Texas counseling certificate (or equivalent) required.
- Prior classroom teaching experience.
