Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) to join our clinical team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality therapeutic services to individuals facing substance use challenges, utilizing evidence-based approaches and a client-centered focus. As a member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will play a critical role in supporting clients through their recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create person-centered treatment plans for clients, ensuring compliance with Virgina state regulations.
- Perform intake, evaluation, orientation, admissions, treatment planning, counseling, documentation, discharge planning and referral of clients experiencing substance abuse-related symptoms.
- Assist in completion of Utilization Reviews as needed with insurance companies to obtain authorizations for client services.
- Facilitate group therapy sessions, employing evidence-based practices, including ASAM criteria and motivational interviewing.
- Monitor client progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed in line with Virgina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) standards.
- Facilitate family involvement in the treatment process, providing education and support to family members.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of progress notes and treatment plans in compliance with organizational policies and Virginia state regulations.
- Participate in team meetings and case reviews to ensure coordinated care and effective treatment strategies.
- Stay current with best practices in substance abuse treatment, including Virginia state requirements for continuing education and training.
- Collaborate with external agencies and community resources to enhance the support network for clients.
- Adhere to all ethical and legal standards related to clinical practice, including Commonwealth of Virginia laws regarding confidentiality and mandatory reporting.
- Identify opportunities for program improvement and quality enhancement to ensure effective and client-centered care.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Current certification/license as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) required.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in substance abuse treatment and/or mental health counseling.
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia regulations and best practices related to substance abuse treatment.
- Strong understanding of addiction treatment modalities and recovery principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with clients and families.
- Knowledge of community resources and support systems for individuals in recovery.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
- Valid CPR/CPI/First Aid certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Working knowledge of HIPAA
- Valid Driver’s License
