Luther Park Community is seeking a Wound and Infection Control Registered Nurse to join our team!
The Trinity Center at Luther Park is 120 bed facility with 60 CCDI beds with an overall care philosophy of serving those in the dementia disease process. The ideal candidate has a love for the elderly, promotes teamwork, is a great communicator and mentor to staff and is grounded in excellent resident care.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Infection Preventionist and Wound Nurse will lead and implement the infection prevention and control program to control the spread of infections and/or outbreaks, support the organization’s quality improvement program and structure and provide education to staff, residents and visitors as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develop and implement an ongoing infection prevention and control program to prevent, recognize and control the onset and spread of infections to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment.
Establish facility-wide systems for the prevention, identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infections and communicable diseases of residents, staff, and visitors.
Develop and implement written policies and procedures in accordance with current standards of practice and recognized guidelines for infection prevention and control.
Oversee resident care activities that increase the risk of infection (i.e. use and care of urinary catheters, wound care, incontinence care, skin care, point-of-care blood testing and medication injections).
Complete infection control audits for new hires and other employees (Hand hygiene, PPE, Glucometer use, peri-care, catheter cares)
Complete weekly NHSN reporting.
Update the infection control module.
Complete rounds and ensure residents on EBP and isolation have signage and equipment in place.
Review and/or revise the facility’s infection prevention and control program, its standards, policies, and procedures annually.
Ensure public health is notified of reportable diseases.
Remain current on new developments related to infection prevention and control through in-services, professional journals, laws and regulations.
Coordinate and complete monthly infection control surveillance rounds in various departments (Nursing, dietary, housekeeping, Laundry and maintenance) and bring attention to various departments’ areas of concern.
Attend daily clinical huddles.
Participate in the on-call rotation as the manager on duty.
Wound Nurse
- Assess any new wounds to determine whether they are pressure/non pressure upon notification by the nurse.
- Notify the wound doctor of any new wounds and obtain consent so that the wound doctor can follow up with the resident.
- Complete wound rounds with or without wound doctor when the wound doctor is not available and complete N-Adv skin check assessments weekly.
- Complete and update care plans for all wounds followed by the wound nurse and wound doctor.
- Ensure all interventions are in place for all residents with pressure wounds (Pressure relieving mattress and cushion, supplements and any other support equipment).
- Notify Resident and resident POA of wound progress and interventions in place.

Minimum Job Requirements::
Must be a Licensed Registered Nurse who currently possesses a valid license in good standing in the state of Iowa.
Minimum of 1-3 years RN experience, preferably in a long-term care setting.
Previous management or supervisor experience preferred.
Previous infection prevention experience preferred.
Complete CMS/CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Course withing 6 months of employment.
Knowledge of State and Federal regulations.
BLS certification required.
Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents, families and government regulators and to work cooperatively with other associates at all levels.
A post-offer employment physical, drug screen and background check are required.
