Overview
We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Full-Time Substitute Teachers to join our educational team. As a Substitute Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing continuity of learning for students. Substitute Teacher
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing students with appropriate educational activities and experiences that will assist them in fulfilling their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Skills:
- Working knowledge of minimum standards of Texas charter schools
- Understanding of student populations on his/her campus
- Understanding of positive behavioral management techniques
- Understanding of curriculum and instruction, with ability to model for the faculty and staff
- Strong leadership abilities
- Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
- Ability to implement policies and procedures
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
- Excellent and strong communication skills (verbal and nonverbal)
- Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Understanding of positive behavioral management techniques
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with students, school staff, residential staff and visitors, regardless of gender, age, disability or ethnicity.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Prepare daily lesson plans and submit to Principal weekly (if applicable), if in classroom as a long-term substitute for more than one week, and up to 20 days.
- Follow prepared lesson plans of regular classroom teacher, if in class up to one week.
- Ensure lesson plans show adaptations for differences in student learning styles
- Teach instructional subjects according to the standards of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
- Maintain records of student attendance and grades.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of students and classroom staff.
- Maintain a neat, clean and orderly classroom.
- Display current student work in classroom, without last names.
- Assist in the preparation of report cards and IEP progress reports, if working as a long-term substitute when such reports are due.
- Provide needed information and assist with the development of FBAs and BIPs, when appropriate.
- Coordinate and manage extracurricular duties, as assigned by the Principal.
- Serve as a role model for students and classroom staff with regard to language, dress and behavior.
- Maintain current knowledge of, and abide by, all state regulations and TCS policies for teachers.
- Ensure necessary and reasonable measures are taken to protect equipment, materials and facilities
- Create and maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and administration.
- Actively participate in faculty and/or staff meetings, and assist with school committees, if needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Occasional district-wide travel
- Frequent prolonged and irregular hours
- Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 25 pounds with assistance), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, and kneeling may be required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required (Master’s preferred).
- Texas teacher certification.
- A minimum of one year’s experience as a classroom teacher, working with ED and/or LD students, preferred.
