Position Summary

The assistant director of Hillel will work collaboratively with the director of Hillel and Jewish Life to develop and implement a vibrant Jewish Life program on campus. The role is primarily student-facing, and involves nurturing and supporting student leadership within the Trinity College Jewish student community, organizing and managing events related to the Hillel program, and helping to manage the Zachs Hillel House. The assistant director will work within the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life supporting and developing interfaith bridges and will work with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Office of Student and Community Life, and the Office of Civic Engagement to support Trinity College’s commitment to welcoming all people and nurturing relationships among people of different religious worldviews. The assistant of Hillel reports directly to the director of Hillel and Jewish Life and provides support as an advisor on religious programming and partnerships with local Jewish communities.

Primary responsibilities include:
- Assist director in engaging with Jewish students consistently to ensure a pluralistic and welcoming environment for all and maintain a visible Jewish presence on campus.
- Develop relationships with students by meeting them where they are; understand, listen to, and show compassion for a broad range of students, involved and uninvolved; identify, engage, and nurture students to assume leadership at all levels; serve as a liaison with Hillel student leaders in the development of programming.
- Design and implement Jewish life programming, in collaboration with students, director, and other campus partners. Such programming should include vibrant, inclusive, and creative Shabbat, holiday, cultural, educational, and Israel-related programming.
- Manage all aspects of Hillel-related programming including marking and publicity, ordering food, making room reservations, recruiting students for set up and clean up, and managing all data associated with events.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a communication strategy that highlights Trinity Hillel events, partnerships, and fundraising campaigns in collaboration with director, Advancement, and other campus partners.
- Assist Admissions with recruitment of Jewish student applicants and support efforts to increase yield of Jewish students.
- Work collaboratively as a member of the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life with the Office of Student and Community Life, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and other campus partners to further expand and enhance collaboration in the realm of religious, spiritual, and cultural diversity.
- Assist the Director with budgeting, financial management, and operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental need.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in Jewish studies, student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field.
- 1 (2-3 preferred) years of experience.
- Ability to demonstrate a deep faith and an open and inclusive spirit.
- Knowledge and significant experience with Jewish customs and rituals.
- Working knowledge of written and spoken Hebrew.
- Experience working with college students and a college or university setting.
- Demonstrated appreciation for the value of interfaith understanding and cooperation.
- Experience guiding emerging adults in faith and moral development.
- Ability to develop and implement creative, visionary programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
