Assistant Professor of Literacy – The School of Education
Salary Range: 85k to 95k (Annually)
Trinity Washington University, a comprehensive institution in the nation’s capital, seeks a creative and collaborative faculty member in literacy within the School of Education to begin in Spring 2025. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education, the successful candidate will teach and oversee courses in literacy, contribute to program growth and development as well as continued program approval and accreditation.
This position will be especially appealing to candidates with a commitment to social justice, as the Trinity School of Education both provides supportive pathways to careers in education for students who might otherwise not have had such opportunities, and centers curriculum around educational equity. The position also offers substantial prospects for innovation and leadership.
This is a non-tenure track 12-month appointment, annually renewable that can start as early as Spring 2025.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate in reading/literacy from an accredited university
- Experience as a reading or literacy specialist in a PK-12 school
- Record of successful college-level teaching
- Experience with accreditation
- Knowledge of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading
- Ability and inclination to use data for continuous improvement
- Experience developing curricula
- Ability to support adjunct faculty
- Demonstrable commitment to equity
- Comfort with educational technology
- Positive and collaborative team member
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as a reading or literacy director in a PK-12 school
- Experience developing programs
- Experience developing PK-12 partnerships
- Knowledge of the International Literacy Association (ILA) Standards for the Preparation of Literacy Professionals
- Participation in professional education associations (such as AACTE, AERA) and/or literacy education associations (such as IDA, ILA, or their affiliate organizations)
Primary duties:
- Teaching literacy courses
- Overseeing adjuncts who teach literacy courses
- Collaborating with School of Education leadership on continuous improvement in literacy education and contributing to accreditation and program approval
- Collaborating with School of Education leadership on developing new literacy programming
