Water Aerobics Instructor
Trinity Washington University seeks a dynamic part-time group Water Aerobics Instructor for Trinity’s upcoming AM boot camp program. We are looking for an energetic and skilled Water Aerobics Instructor who provides a safe and enjoyable work-out experience. This position will provide water aerobics instruction, monitor group activities, and educate class participants on fitness and safety.
Responsibilities:
- Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercise, stretching, and cool down.
- Instructs class participants on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.
- Provide appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
- Assists class participants, when needed by providing a positive and informative exercise experience through attentiveness and addressing questions.
- Keeps management informed of pool activities, facility needs, and problems, if they occur.
- Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to at all times.
- Greets class participants warmly and enthusiastically while maintaining an atmosphere that is motivational and encourages long-term participation and member retention.
- Enforce pool rules and policies at all times.
- Show respect and responsibility for all equipment.
- Arrive on time, start and end class on time.
- Teach agreed upon classes and responsible for obtaining coverage of classes if unable to attend.
- Inform the Director of the Trinity Center two weeks in advance as vacation is needed.
- Attend mandatory instructor and staff meetings.
- Promote all Trinity Center programs to the participants when applicable.
Qualifications:
- Have at least two (2) years of experience teaching water aerobics.
- Possess a CPR/First Aid/AED certification that is active; maintain current certification through ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NDEITA or equivalent national certification.
- Proven ability to swim.
- Must be 18 years or older and have a fitness/group exercise background.
- Knowledge of, and ability to communicate exercise physiology principles as related to a well-rounded fitness program.
- Physically fit to lead classes at the appropriate level.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- The work environment is usually hot and humid. Air quality within indoor pools may be reduced due to increased levels of chloramines and ammonia compounds produced from the disinfection of pool water.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Able to project voice over pool noise, to ensure all instructions can be heard.
- Instructors are expected to be attired appropriately.
