The Process Safety Engineer reviews all new proposed processes, process equipment, proposed changes to processes or process equipment, and existing plant operations to determine all necessary SHE requirements are addressed in a thorough and rigorous manner. Regular assessments of process safety procedures, related equipment, training of operators, and other SHE related items are also within scope.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides technical expertise to all departments to help evaluate risks and cost-effectively resolve process safety (Property Protection) issues, including recommendations from PHAs, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Verifies that Process Safety Information (PSI) is accessible, completed, and current
- Function as an Management of Change (MOC) Subject Matter Expert
- Lead and participate in investigations of site process safety incidents, utilizing Apollo root cause analysis, Tripod analysis, and developing appropriate corrective actions.
- Work with area Operations and R&D to provide process safety support. Daily interaction with area engineers, process specialists and process leaders.
- Writes specifications for new equipment required to ensure safe operation of manufacturing processes. Writes SOPS and trains operating personnel on proper use of said equipment. Prepare documentation to provide sufficient information for Project Engineering for detailed specifications for cost estimates and construction.
- Investigate and implement continuous improvement processes required to improve Safety in manufacturing operations.
- Support Process Safety in the Americas region as a member of the Process Safety Network Tier 2 group and part of the PS working/expertise groups as applicable. This role includes communication of Process Safety topics to the site. Participation in or presentations at PMP phase transfer meetings in the capacity of addressing SHE risks and mitigation plans.
- Fulfill requirements of assigned process safety life cycle (PSLC) role map roles including role nbr. 2, 4, 6, 14, 25, 26, 27, 38, 42, and 44-51.
- Provide data for process safety key performance indices and propose improvement actions and recommendations accordingly.
You Bring:
- BS Degree in Chemical or equivalent engineering degree.
- 3-5 years experience as engineer preferably in process safety engineering, chemical operations, medical device, chemical operations, or associated industry.
- Hands on experience with chemical and polymer processing/manufacturing equipment.
- Knowledge of production processes and specific requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant Manufacturing Excellence work processes and applicable SHE & Manufacturing requirements.
- Solid understanding of codes and regulations related to chemical manufacturing environment with particular skill in those areas related to safety.
- Knowledge of FMEA, RCA, tools and application
- Experience with Project, Word and other business/engineering software desired
- Solid understanding of codes and regulations related to chemical and polymer manufacturing environment with particular skill in those areas related to safety.
