General Summary:
The Endoscopy Technician/Transporter provides essential support in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) under the supervision of the ASC Charge Nurse, Chief CRNA, and other healthcare professionals. This role involves assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, patient transport, equipment maintenance, and ensuring a safe, clean environment. The individual is responsible for preparing patients for transport, handling medical equipment, sterilizing scopes, and supporting the healthcare team with operational tasks. The role requires strict adherence to infection control, safety protocols, and excellent communication skills.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Extensive mobility, walking, and standing during work.
- Lifting, pushing, and pulling of patients, supplies, and equipment up to 100 lbs., requiring full range of motion.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Prolonged periods of viewing computer screens or typing.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, hazardous equipment, chemical agents, and medicinal preparations.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions or irregular hours as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Endoscopy Technician Duties:
- Assist with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Prepare and maintain endoscopic equipment, ensuring availability and functionality.
- Follow aseptic techniques in cleaning, sterilizing, and handling endoscopy equipment.
- Assist in cleaning, storing, and performing minor repairs on endoscopic equipment.
- Maintain quality assurance in sterilization rooms and report equipment issues to Endoscopy Manager/Director.
- Safeguard patient specimens with accurate labeling and handling.
- Comply with OSHA and JCAHO standards to maintain a safe and clean clinical environment.
- Patient Transport Duties:
- Prepare and assist patients in and out of wheelchairs and vehicles for transport.
- Safely transport patients to and from procedure rooms within the ASC.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and prevent falls during transport.
- Follow safety and infection control guidelines during patient transport.
- Communicate transport needs effectively using walkie-talkies.
- Equipment Maintenance and Safety:
- Ensure all clinical and transport equipment is functional, performing regular checks.
- Report equipment issues and assist with repairs.
- Unload, stock, and clean supplies and equipment throughout the ASC.
- Perform minor repairs on equipment as necessary.
- General Support and Communication:
- Maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, family members, and the healthcare team.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and respect corporate information.
- Assist with cleaning and preparing patient equipment and stretchers.
- Document transport and endoscopic procedure details accurately.
- Be proactive in assisting with ASC operations as directed by the ASC Charge Nurse, Chief CRNA, or RN.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Sterile Processing or Central Service Technique Certification preferred.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and infection control practices.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate

* Maintain inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.
* Conduct in-service training sessions to disseminate information regarding equipment or instruments.
* Read current literature, talk with colleagues, or participate in professional organizations or conferences to keep abreast of developments in endoscopy.
