Job Description

  • Position Title: Code Blue Caseworker
  • Location: Trinity Center for Community, Asbury Park, New Jersey
  • Job Type: Part Time Position
  • Workweek:Up to 25 hours per week including evenings and weekends; casework will need to be provided both in the evening at the Code Blue Warming Center and during the day when community resources are open and available
  • Salary: $25 per hour; there are no benefits available with this position

Background and Position Overview:

Trinity Center for Community, a nonsectarian outreach and justice program of Trinity Church, includes a Code Blue Warming Center hosting up to 85 people overnight during winter; a holistic housing program that offers professional caseworker support, financial skills empowerment, mental health resources, recovery and wellness coaching, job and leadership training and placement; our Saturday Soup community kitchen that serves 12k meals a year; Food Pantry that distributes 284k pounds of food a year; intersectional arts and social justice programming, in partnership with Trinity Church; and advocacy at the community, county, and state levels to address homelessness, housing insecurity, poverty, and anti-racist efforts – in partnership with the church, Monmouth Housing Coalition, and other organizations serving the community.

The Code Blue Caseworker will be responsible for providing casework for Trinity’s Code Blue program. This casework includes exploring options for emergency, transitional, or permanent housing, helping to obtain healthcare (mental and physical), SNAP, driver licenses, and employment and job training for our guests at Code Blue. The Code Blue Caseworker will be expected to collaborate with Trinity Staff, Monmouth County, and social service and community organizations.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Desired Experience:

We are seeking a caring, compassionate, energetic, self-starting and exceedingly well-organized individual with demonstrated expertise in communications and excellent interpersonal skills.

Graduation from an accredited certificate program, community college, college or university, preferably with a concentration in Social Work or a related field. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience in casework on a year-for-year basis.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Computer skills: Familiarity with Google Docs

Individual and Group Engagement Skills

Work well within a collaborative environment

Excellent de-escalation skills

Experience working in a non-profit or community service environment; preferably with those experiencing homelessness or housing instability

Experience with and comfort working with individuals experiencing homelessness in outreach and engagement services

Spanish language skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Meet with community partners to broaden our network and facilitate access to both emergency and permanent housing and related services

Develop and maintain partnerships with social service organizations throughout Monmouth County to provide additional resources and support to community members seeking housing

Conduct preliminary assessments with community members to gain a better understanding of their needs and barriers to accessing housing services

Meet regularly with community members to provide goal-oriented casework services and support

Provide referrals, resources, and facilitation to community members experiencing homelessness to increase access to necessary resources and to work toward a goal of stabilization and transition to permanent housing

Work a flexible schedule that respects the needs and interests of our community members experiencing homelessness

Complete all paperwork and record keeping tasks accurately and in a timely manner

Attend staff and supervisory meetings as necessary

Ensure the clients’ right to privacy and ensure appropriate confidentiality.

Perform other related duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Ability to set and maintain strong personal boundaries and exercise appropriate independent judgment

Ability to work as a positive team member, maintaining strict confidentiality

Knowledge of case management principles, methods, and techniques

Knowledge of available medical, housing, psychological, educational, and social service resources

Ability to understand the dynamics of poverty

Ability to coordinate multiple projects

Ability to maintain records, reports, files

Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
