What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School College Counselor position at Trinity Episcopal School (RVA)?
Trinity Episcopal High School seeks an experienced full-time College Counselor for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will be a positive, mission-focused professional with college counseling experience serving students and families in grades 8 through 12.
A master’s degree in higher education, counselor education, and/or 3-5 years experience in college admissions is preferred. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.

Essential responsibilities of this position include:
- Providing support, guidance, advice, and strategies to proactively guide college counseling for a diverse student population.
- Working individually and collectively to develop trusting relationships with students and their families.
- Constructing a well-balanced list of colleges for students and families based on individual parameters. Assisting students with the completion of college applications, and providing essay review.
- Writing 40 personal recommendation letters and supporting faculty with training on effective letters of recommendation.
- Academic advising for course selection and its impact on college admissions for juniors and seniors.
- Maintaining familiarity with scholarships for in- and out-of-state colleges and staying up-to-date on financial aid trends related to the college application process.
- Growing and refining existing comprehensive, year-round, grade-level programming to support student success and engagement.
- Collaborating closely with the Student Support Team, faculty, coaches, and other partners to ensure a positive experience for all students.
- Supporting the school testing coordinator to administer PSAT, SAT School Day, and AP tests. Counsel families on ACT and SAT testing resources and score interpretation as it relates to college applications.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with colleges and universities, including visits, meetings, and college fairs with representatives.
- Positively and professionally represent school culture and the academic environment at all times, especially when engaging with external stakeholders.
- Actively engaging with regional and national professional organizations to stay current on industry best practices.

- Eagerness for professional development and continuous learning in the field of college counseling, such as memberships within the National Association for College Admissions Counseling and its affiliates.
