Position Summary: Farmers Market Assistant oversees the Saturday Children’s tent activities and support for the Saturday and Wednesday Market Manager duties, which run weekly May through October. Responsibilities include organizing and implementing all children’s activities, collection of vendor fees, set up and tear down of the market space, and other duties as assigned. This position is approximately six hours per week, May through October.
Qualifications: The Market Assistant will have a minimum of a high school diploma, with 1-3 years work experience. Training or experience in food systems, agriculture or public health preferred but not required. Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the children’s tent at the Saturday market.
- Make stall assignments and create market map for optimal vendor/customer flow. Coordinate opening and closing of market (set up/ tear down tents, tables, signs); only on the weeks where full market coverage is needed
- Make sure all vendors are adhering to the rules and regulations of the market when applicable
- Collect coins from vendors using established food assistance system, manage food assistance machines and records at information stall.
- Maintain an information booth, newsletter signup sheet, market customer count and customer survey distributions.
- Collect daily vendor fees, track attendance
- Attend Wednesday market May through October when covering for Wednesday manager
Required Skills and Abilities
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint required. Experience working with WordPress and Mailchimp a plus.
- Must be physically fit for market set up and tear down requirements.
