Position Purpose
Acts as the media relations contact for the health system. Responds to media inquiries, schedules interviews, arranges and plans media events and visits, serves as a staff writer and editor as necessary. Writes press releases and proactively pitches news stories to various media and provides follow up. Performs other duties as needed in the Department of Marketing to promote the health system including assisting with events as needed. Consults with the Manager on the public image of the health system and will assist in achieving marketing goals. Serves in an editing and/or writing capacity for various publications produced by the Regional Marketing Department. Produces monthly/bi-weekly/weekly newsletters and communication materials for the health system and follows set guidelines for approval on all written communication. Assists other departments with communications projects.
What you will do
Working with the Manager, initiates and controls the flow of public information and access to the media and other external audiences.
Initiates contacts with media representatives to maintain a working relationship; initiates story ideas or campaigns to sell to the media and responds to requests from the media
Maintains a variety of internal contacts as sources for media stories
Responsible for the daily review of selected local, regional and national media outlets
Serves in an editing and/or writing capacity for various publications produced by the Department of Marketing
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a closely related field. Requires five to seven (5-7) years of work experience as a public relations professional in a position that utilizes standard journalistic interviewing, research, editing and writing skills.
Requires the analytical ability to collect information from diverse sources, including web-based research and other standard research tools.
Requires advanced interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, discretion, an understanding of privacy laws and a demonstrated ability to work with sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality
