JOB SUMMARY 

The Director of Mission is an integral member of the team providing leadership efforts that integrate the mission, vision, and core values into the fabric of the ministry. This position is responsible for shaping a culture of ministry by leading efforts that assure the mission, vision and core values inform all aspects of organizational life.  The Director of Mission provides leadership in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of programs and activities related to mission, core values, ethics, Catholic identity, community benefit and organizational spirituality to ensure the mission is communicated effectively and integrated into all aspects of the ministry.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITES

  • Has the authority to interview, hire, orient, terminate, promote, train and conduct performance evaluations. 
  • Assigns day-to-day work activities; directs the functional and technical job performance of team members. 
  • Allocate and direct staffing needs to meet patient, unit, and department needs, and collaborate with others to ensure overall staffing needs are met.           
  • Manage performance including: setting goals, clarifying job expectations, monitoring performance progress, providing feedback, recognize, developing skills and addressing performance issues related to work and our Commitments using corrective action.      
  • Articulates and demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the mission, values, and heritage of the organization.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of orientation programs for leaders/management, physicians, staff and volunteers to assist in the integration of mission and values into all aspects of the organization.
  • Ensures continuing education on mission, values, and ethics for physicians, staff and volunteers.
  • In collaboration with the CommonSpirit VP of Formation, provide/make available opportunities for formation at all levels of the organization.
  • Assists in coordinating resources to address needs of the poor as identified within the community needs assessment.
  • Oversees/coordinates activities related to community benefit.
  • Collaborates in the identification of opportunities for outreach ministry and other means for meeting the mission expectations of the organization, and actively participates in their implementation.
  • Advises on policies, procedures and organizational philosophy and ethics to ensure congruence with the mission and values of CommonSpirit and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments; e.g., Spiritual Care, Human Resources, Organization Development, Education, Communication, Public Relations, Advocacy and Ethics Committees in conducting leadership development and spirituality programs developing personnel policies, wage and salary programs, and advising on public relations and advocacy endeavors.
  • Fosters a corporate culture that enhances a sense of Christian community within the organization.
  • Serves as a resource in mission, spirituality, spiritual care, ethics and community benefit within the organization.
  • Assists in reporting to and educating the region Board on mission, ethics and community benefit.
  • In collaboration with the Market VP of Mission Integration, serves as a liaison with the Church at the parish and diocesan levels.
  • Supports the market by assuming any other responsibilities mutually agreed upon to ensure the effective functioning of the ministry.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Theology, Health Care Mission or related field.
  • Ability to develop strategic and operational plans.
  • Ability to effectively drive strategic transformation work.
  • Demonstrated skills in group dynamics, group facilitation and the leadership of groups.
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to make oral presentations.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and participative manner with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Sound judgment, strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Function effectively in a highly political environment requiring high levels of diplomacy and sound judgement.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

 

Preference is for a candidate of the Catholic Faith tradition, exceptions include candidate’s ability to be conversant with Catholicism and with experience in Catholic healthcare.
