Job Summary / Purpose
- The monitor technician is responsible for the continuous observation and documentation of cardiac rhythms and identification of any change.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Monitor Tech include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinates patient flow (i.e. admissions, discharges, transfers and tests/procedures).
- Maintains adequate unit supplies, mindful of cost and waste.
- Relays pertinent information to team members, charge nurse, and next shift in a timely manner.
- Performs appropriately in crisis situations, relaying and obtaining information as needed.
- Recognizes importance of information received and prioritizes communication.
- Receives and issues change of shift telemetry report.
- Immediately reports significant monitor changes and documents name of person spoken to.
- Set up telemetry equipment for new admissions according to established procedures
- Sets and maintains telemetry alarms as designated by physicians and/or hospital policy.
- Uses knowledge of basic cardiac arrhythmia to interpret rhythm strips according to hospital policy. Observes telemetry screen continuously, looking away only for a few seconds (i.e., not doing detailed orders, reaching, etc.).
- Scores a minimum of 85% on annual basic cardiac monitoring test.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Education for Staff Job Levels
- High School or equivalent.
Required Licensure and Certifications
- BLS required within 30 days
