Job Title: Phlebotomist and Specimen Collection
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join team. As a phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in patient care by collecting blood and urine samples for diagnostic testing. Your expertise in venipuncture techniques, attention to detail, and ability to provide a comfortable and reassuring experience for patients will contribute to the overall quality of our healthcare services.
Hours:
Monday - Friday 9am-5pm
Responsibilities:
1. Greet patients warmly, establish rapport, and explain the blood collection process, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
2. Verify patient identity, accurately record patient information, and ensure proper labeling of collected samples to maintain traceability and prevent errors.
3. Utilize your knowledge of anatomy and venipuncture techniques to select appropriate veins for blood collection, considering factors such as patient age, condition, and medical history.
4. Prepare the collection site by cleansing the area with antiseptic solutions and applying tourniquets to facilitate vein visibility and access.
5. Perform venipuncture with precision and expertise, using sterile needles and equipment to collect blood samples while minimizing patient discomfort.
6. Collect other specimens, such as urine or saliva, as required, ensuring proper handling, labeling, and storage according to established protocols.
7. Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during or after the blood collection process, providing immediate assistance and reporting incidents to healthcare professionals if necessary.
8. Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked phlebotomy station, including proper disposal of biohazardous materials and adherence to infection control protocols.
9. Follow standard operating procedures and safety regulations to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and quality of collected specimens.
10. Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure efficient specimen transportation, processing, and timely delivery for analysis.
11. Keep accurate records of collected samples, including patient information, collection details, and any relevant observations or complications encountered.
12. Stay updated on industry trends, new phlebotomy techniques, and advancements in medical technology through continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
Requirements:
1. High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification is preferred.
2. Proven experience as a phlebotomist or similar role, demonstrating proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to establish rapport with patients, put them at ease, and provide clear instructions throughout the blood collection process.
4. Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control protocols, and safety regulations related to phlebotomy practices.
5. Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately label and document patient information and collection procedures.
6. Familiarity with various blood collection tubes, additives, and storage requirements.
7. Basic computer skills for entering patient data and accessing electronic health record systems.
8. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing situations.
9. Empathy, patience, and the ability to handle potentially stressful situations with professionalism and compassion.
11. Adherence to ethical conduct, patient confidentiality, and HIPAA regulations.
