Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will manage and perform all activities associated with the financial matters of the church in an accurate and timely manner. This includes processing accounts payable, bank reconciliations, payroll processing, and preparing financial reports. This role is essential for supporting the financial health of our organization and involves involve working closely with committees, members, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the church’s financial records.
- Implement policies, internal controls, and practices for the collection, handling, recording, use, and reporting of funds. Maintain accurate records, with supporting documentation, for all church income and expenses.
- Manage all banking activities including processing all deposits for all church programs.
- Process all bi-weekly payroll and prepare associated documents and tax forms for all employees and contractors.
- Ensure the timely payment of accounts payable. Maintain vendor files in Quickbooks and reconcile vendor statements.
- Track pledges and generate giving statements for members.
- Provide monthly budget and cash flow reports to committees and other church groups.
- Prepare for and participate in the annual financial review.
- With support from the Finance & Stewardship Committee, record and reconcile investment statements. Transfer money between investments and operating budget as directed by the committee.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Accounting or a related field preferred.
- Experience in Accounting role.
- Have general knowledge of and experience with standard accounting practices and procedures.
- Facility with QuickBooks Online, Office 360 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Suite, and ability to learn new software (Amplify, etc.).
- Possess good time management and organizational skills.
- Display ability to establish and maintain appropriate safeguards for financial records and operating risks; and ability to properly manage confidential information.
- Ability to support the Church’s mission.
- Demonstrate professionalism with job functions, vendors, office staff, and interactions with Church members.
