What are the responsibilities and job description for the Platemaker / Prepress Technician position at Trinity Press?
Northern NJ Trade Printer is looking for an experienced Platemaker and PrePress Production Artist to join our team. We are a small mom & pop shop with many big name customers in the tri-state area. This position is first shift - full time. Bilingual a bonus.
You must have a thorough knowledge of Kodak Prinergy, Preps, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop) as well as working cross-platform Mac and PC.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Follow schedule for each production day in the prepress department.
- Set up prepress files for digital and offset presses.
- Thoroughly review each Job Ticket for every order.
- Work with Customer Service and Production to ensure timely and correct completion of orders and ask questions, if necessary, to ensure the final product is accurate.
- Analyze customer-supplied files for correct format, colors, and resolution.
- Proof and review completed work and customer-supplied artwork for 100% accuracy of brand guidelines.
- Troubleshoot problems that arise in the department.
- Can meet production timelines.
- Set up and operate platemaker equipment for the daily output of press plates, ensuring quality output standards.
- Effectively communicates with others as needed.
- Update management on problems, issues, and the status of ongoing projects.
- Perform other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.
Required Qualifications
- Kodak Prinergy and Preps
- Adobe Creative Suite experience is required. (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, and Photoshop)
- High-School diploma or equivalent.
- Has a proven aptitude for working with computers.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic math skills are required for imposition into templates. (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Self-directed and able to perform with minimal oversight once trained.
- Work cross-platform Mac and PC.
- Can work in a very fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task while remaining accurate, problem-solve, and maintaining attention to detail.
- Able to quickly identify problems and seek solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates the ability to communicate with all team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in design, typography, and typesetting.
- Previous Digital and Commercial Print production experience.
- Remain up to date on changing trends in the print industry.
Physical Requirements
- Can stand or sit for long periods.
- Can lift 50 lbs. or more on occasion.

- Pay for qualified candidates is based on experience.
