POSITION SUMMARY
This position will provide leadership, guidance, support, and training to the Authority’s staff of accountants and senior accountants, and will direct their day-to-day accounting duties and responsibilities. The Accounting Supervisor must possess the knowledge to evaluate and account for complex financial transactions and is a subject matter expert on the general ledger and reporting modules of the financial system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Directly supervises financial accounting staff to include hiring, training, monitoring work, and performance evaluation.
2. Maintains the Authority’s chart of accounts and oversees general ledger maintenance.
3. Ensures financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Directly responsible for assigned funds, journal entries, and month-close tasks and provides guidance and training to accountants and senior accountants for their assigned funds, journal entries, and tasks.
4. Supervises month-end close, ensuring the timely completion of all journal entries and tasks. Provides data to support reporting, budget and treasury functions.
5. Serves as the banking backup.
6. Compiles the Authority’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and provides all required information to complete the accompanying footnotes and supplementary information.
7. Calculates contract revenue settle-ups and mid-year reallocation of billings to customer cities for assigned funds. Leads processing of all settle-up calculations to contracting parties.
8. Coordinates the assignment and completion of PBCs requested by the Authority’s audit firm.
9. Oversees the preparation of the Authority’s quarterly financial statements and the timely submittal to the Board and Management.
10. Prepares journal entries and schedules for complex areas including new bond issuances and new accounting pronouncements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Regularly has full personnel management responsibilities including hiring, approving time, selection, discipline, grievances and formal performance evaluations for all direct reports.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Accounts for assets of $3.34 billion, total liabilities of $2.25 billion, revenues of more than $420 million, and expenses of more than $300 million.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in accounting required
EXPERIENCE
Five-plus years of progressively responsible experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Texas driver’s license. Certified Public Accountant designation preferred
KNOWLEDGE
Must have an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting standards.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must organize work and manage time well. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP software required. Lawson and/or Workday Financials experience preferred.

Follows general supervisory instructions, as well as policies and precedents open to judgment in some areas and more specific guidelines, policies and procedures in others. Based on knowledge of policies, precedents and procedures, may regularly assist others with standard work methods and problems.
