POSITION SUMMARY
This position may be used in several work units by performing a variety of engineering support tasks that support TRA Mission to its customer cities. With guidance and oversight, this individual will perform hydraulic modeling, technical design, data management, analysis, asset management, and coordination tasks with water supply distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plant facilities to ensure that the most accurate data is used in engineering analysis, planning, and design. This individual may also coordinate with internal and external customers, and prepare written/verbal technical documentation for the Professional Engineer for review.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineer in Training: Planning and Hydraulics:
This position supports the Planning team of the Planning, Design, and Construction Administration (PDCA) Department by performing hydraulic modeling, data management, analysis, asset management, and coordination tasks to ensure that the most accurate data is used in PDCA’s Planning team for hydraulic analysis and asset condition assessment/management. Under the guidance and oversight of the PDCA Management, this individual will perform basic modeling tasks, maintain model GIS databases, coordinate with internal and external customers, and prepare written/verbal technical documentation to the Planning Manager, Assistant Planning Manager, or the Hydraulic System Administrator for review.
1. With guidance and direction analyze and assess detailed engineering problems and assess various “what-if” scenarios, complete various planning, population, and data trending/forecasting tasks.
2. Expected to perform task-oriented or limited portions of a broader assignment, demonstrate problem-solving techniques, and apply standard engineering practices.
3. Possess problem-solving, investigation, and analysis skills.
4. Ability to learn and apply engineering software, GIS software, and other developing technologies related to water/wastewater hydraulic modeling, condition assessment, and planning.
5. Coordinates with internal and external engineers to gather relevant data for modeling efforts.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not regularly provide work leadership or full personnel management to any employees.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of experience in a relevant field is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a Texas EIT certificate or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire. Valid Texas Driver’s License.
KNOWLEDGE
Must possess knowledge of hydraulics, basic hydraulic modeling, GIS systems, and in-pipe dynamics. Proficiency in standard office software products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to communicate with internal and external customers, perform basic engineering tasks, and solve problems. Oral and written communication, and collaboration skills.
GUIDANCE RECEIVED
Receives general direction about results to be attained. -Requires judgment to determine which methods apply and what data/information should be considered. The position must think through how issues can be addressed within existing policies and procedures and may assist others with more complex work methods and problems.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most duties are carried out in an office environment. Some fieldwork is required. Working conditions include exposure to weather, odor, chemical hazards, gasses, and dust.
