Upper School Head Coaches report to the Athletic Director. Coaches are expected to perform other duties as assigned beyond those responsibilities stated below and are expected to support the school and its leadership in pursuit of the school mission, values, and core competencies.

Responsibilities
- The Head Coach is responsible for the guidance of the program of his/her respective sport, from Middle Division to Varsity.
- Take Ownership of your program. Coordinate and guide all levels of the program by conducting coach meetings, developing team rules, and assisting other coaches in the development of practices and maintaining strong communication at each level.
- Utilize effective coaching techniques, teach correct fundamental skills, demonstrate knowledge and expertise in their assigned sport and maintain a high level of competitiveness. Be positive with their athletes.
- Educate parents and student athletes on the philosophy, expectations and policies of their assigned sport and insist that they maintain respect for game officials, opponents, administrators, and spectators.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to employ best instructional practices for a wide spectrum of learners.
- Use motivation techniques and strategies that are age appropriate, and which comply with the requirements of the athletic department.
- Implement strategies that develop both individual discipline and team discipline.
- Provide proper supervision for all team members during practice, games, and athletic events.
- Initiate and maintain open channels of communication with parents.
- Assist in the operation of various sports activities and as assigned by the athletic office.
- Attend meetings as needed with administrators, teachers, advisors, and parents.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Substantial knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in support of the mission of the school.
- Ability to partner with parents and to communicate effectively with them.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to establish priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact.
- Physical Education Teaching field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience in coaching athletes at the high school level and beyond, with a proven track record of developing and refining athletic skills in Basketball.
- Physical Education Teaching field experience.
Physical Requirements

- Standing, walking, and sitting for long periods of time. Usually needed intermittently for brief and long periods of time. Frequency may vary depending on activities and location.
- Frequent bending during several hours or more while working with students. Usually performed for 5 to 30 sec at a time.
- Frequent reaching and hand dexterity
- Squatting/kneeling may be needed for specific activities.
- Able to lift, push and pull up to 40 pounds. Frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 30 pounds.
- Traveling will be required for offsite trips.
Work Environment
- May deal with stressful situations in the normal course of duties, including a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- The work environment is a standard classroom, gymnasium, and/or outdoor setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions and/or outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and/or bodily fluids.
