Under the supervision of the Director of Employment Services, the Career Mentor supports individuals placed in various employment settings. This role collaborates with Employment Specialists to facilitate successful employment outcomes, assist individuals in identifying their skills and goals, and provide ongoing coaching to support skill development and job retention. Location: Primarily based in New Lenox with extensive travel required

Essential Functions
- Foster a respectful and inclusive work environment for those served, treating all individuals with dignity.
- Collaborate with Employment Specialists to provide additional support to clients.
- Work with students in the Project SEARCH Program during the academic year in Plainfield School District 202.
- Conduct assessments with new clients to identify skills, interests, education, work history, and other factors contributing to successful job placement.
- Lead individuals at The Branch Day Program through a career curriculum focused on workplace readiness, such as budgeting and conflict resolution.
- Provide on-the-job coaching to support clients with job retention.
- Partner with employers to identify and modify job tasks to accommodate individual needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including progress notes for job coaching and summary reports for career curriculum activities.
- Embrace and apply new tools and techniques for client assessments and success.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with clients, coworkers, employers, and supervisors.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, lift, and carry items.
- Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Lift over 40 pounds from floor to waist unassisted.
- Push and pull up to 75 pounds.
- Perform deep knee squats.
- Remain in a stationary position for extended periods (sitting or standing).
- Operate motor vehicles.
- Engage in physical activities including driving, balancing, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and repetitive motion.
- Pursuing or possessing a bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet use.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (training available through Trinity Services).
- Ability to meet the physical demands listed above.
