Job Description:

Trinity University, located in San Antonio, Texas, the nation's 7 th largest city, is a small private Liberal Arts institution. Trinity is comprised of 2,600 students, primarily undergraduate students. Trinity offers a unique residential experience (3-year residency requirement) and Liberal Arts curriculum. Trinity's Orientation & Transitions programming is housed within the Student Inclusion &
Belonging Office in the Division of Student Affairs.

Trinity University is seeking a candidate that has experience with new student orientation, college student support, and experience leading large-scale college student programming. The Assistant Director will lead Trinity's student orientation programming and help students with their college transition experiences from their first year through graduation.

Reporting to the Director of Student Inclusion; Belonging, the Assistant Director of Orientation & Transitions advances the University's commitment to student success, retention, and inclusion efforts. Responsible for directing new student, transfer student, and family orientation programs, and student transition initiatives. Provides oversight of budget management, assessment, and planning initiatives for orientation and transitions.

  • Directs new student and family orientation programs, including: Tiger Takeoff, New Tiger Orientation, and Spring New Tiger Orientation, including serving as the primary point person for student orientation programs and coordinating logistics between all involved departments, offices, and vendors.

  • Collaborates and directs student transition initiatives (e.g., Major Declaration Day and Student Leadership and Service Awards), including: program development, assessment, and coordinating logistics between all involved departments, offices, and vendors.

  • Develops and coordinates orientation marketing and communication materials, including web pages, email communication, and/or print materials for parents/families and students.

  • Supervises the Orientation & Transitions Graduate Assistant and the Orientation Teams which is comprised of roughly 35 students. Directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, addresses complaints and resolves problems.

  • Serves on the Reading TUgether Committee, Parent and Family Engagement Committee, and serves on the Student Service and Leadership Awards Committee in partnership with Alumni Relations and Development.

  • Manages the Orientation Programs budget.

  • Assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of New Student Orientation and Transitions programs and services. Implements action items stemming from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) reviews.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Collaborates with other Student Affairs staff and participates in the life of the University by serving on committees, attending functions and being available for special assignments.

  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.

  • Manages data collection, analysis and overall representation of Orientation & Transitions.

  • Represents the University in relevant professional organizations.

  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or related degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time experience in orientation, leadership development, student programming, or related functional area.

~OR~

  • Master's degree plus one year of full-time experience in orientation, leadership development, student programming, or related functional area.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Student Personnel/Student Affairs or related field from four-year college or university.

  • Student affairs experience in advising, training, leadership education, counseling, or student programming.

  • Student affairs experience in orientation and transitions programming.

  • Experience designing and conducting assessment activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:

  • Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to use time efficiently in projects.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of current Orientation and Transitions practices, trends, and related policies.

  • Knowledge of student development and student leadership theories.

  • Proven commitment to and appreciation for issues of inclusion and belonging.

  • Ability to articulate issues and trends in higher education.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with poise and patience.

  • Knowledge of assessment tools such as Qualtrics, or other related tools.
