Job Description : Trinity University seeks applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) in the Department of Music beginning in August 2025. The VAP will teach undergraduate courses in Music History I and II, Intro to Music History, and seminar courses within the candidate's area(s) of expertise (e.g. film music, public musicology, cross-cultural studies, popular music, etc.). The position is non-renewable.

APPOINTMENT DETAILS
This position will be a 9-month appointment beginning in August of 2025, and will be non-renewable.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Required : Ph.D or Doctoral equivalent in Music with emphasis on Historical Musicology. This includes ABD status at the time of application with completion of degree expected before the appointment.
EXPERIENCE
Required : Teaching experience and / or graduate assistantship in music history with evidence of research in topics specific to the Western canon.
Preferred : At least 3-5 years successfully teaching at the university level with additional areas of musicological expertise beyond Western music.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of Western music history from the Middle Ages through the present, including major works, composers, stylistic developments, and cultural contexts.
- Strong pedagogical skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively teach and engage undergraduate students of diverse academic and musical backgrounds.
- Proficiency in scholarly research and writing with a record of publications, presentations, or other academic contributions in musicology or related fields.
- Familiarity with current instructional technologies and methods for teaching music history.
- Understanding and commitment to musical instruction within the context of the liberal arts mission of Trinity University.
