Job Title: Controller

Job Overview: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to manage the financial operations of our Cannabis organization. The ideal candidate will oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance activities. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and the ability to provide strategic insights to senior management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement) in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the annual budgeting process, develop forecasts, and provide variance analysis to senior management.
• Accounting Operations: Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
• Internal Controls: Design and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure accuracy in financial reporting, and prevent fraud.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and tax filings.
• Audit Management: Coordinate and manage the annual external audit process, liaising with auditors and providing necessary documentation.
• Cash Flow Management: Monitor and manage company cash flow, optimizing liquidity and ensuring the company’s financial obligations are met.
• Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, provide guidance and professional development, and ensure effective department operations.
• Financial Analysis & Reporting: Provide financial insights and analysis to senior management, supporting strategic decision-making.
• Policy & Procedure Development: Develop and update accounting policies and procedures to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
• Ad Hoc Projects: Lead special projects as required, such as system upgrades or process improvements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).
• Proven experience as a Controller or in a similar senior accounting role (5 years preferred).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial regulations, and accounting best practices.
• Experience with financial software (ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, etc.).
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Work Environment:

• Full-time position
• Typically based in an office environment with occasional travel depending on the company’s needs.
