Project Accounting Manager
A company in Richmond, VA is seeking a skilled Project Accounting Manager to oversee financial reporting, revenue tracking, and cash flow management for a dedicated business unit. This leadership role will involve mentoring a team of accounting professionals, ensuring compliance with financial standards, and continuously improving accounting processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of GAAP, and experience managing financial controls in a project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accurate recognition of revenue, profit, and cash flow.
- Generate, distribute, and maintain project-related financial reports.
- Analyze financial data at the business unit level, identifying trends and insights for decision-making.
- Continuously assess and enhance accounting systems and manual processes to improve efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and recommend adjustments to policies and procedures as needed.
- Enforce company financial policies and procedures, serving as a subject matter expert on project accounting.
- Act as the primary liaison for internal audits, compiling and presenting necessary financial documentation.
- Identify financial risks and escalate concerns to senior leadership.
- Optimize team workload distribution to maximize efficiency and recommend staffing changes when needed.
- Train and support accounting associates, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (strong accounting background preferred).
- 5–8 years of experience in accounting, preferably in a project-based or construction environment.
- Experience with ERP systems such as JD Edwards or other comparable financial platforms.
- Strong understanding of financial principles, budgeting, cost control, and GAAP compliance.
- Proven ability to lead projects from initial planning to full implementation.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Leadership and mentoring experience, with the ability to motivate and develop team members.
- Skilled at driving change, improving efficiency, and fostering a positive team culture.
- Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships across departments.
Salary : $100,000 - $125,000
