OVERVIEW OF JOB: The Retail Merchandiser's primary duties include effectively presenting the Company's brands to the retailer and the consumer. The Retail Merchandiser will distribute inventory for each account by restocking all coolers and in-store space and displays to provide maximum availability of products while maintaining quality control and freshness standards. The Retail Merchandiser will also store reserve inventory in the proper designated area for later restocking. The Retail Merchandiser will set up and/or build new displays as instructed. The Retail Merchandiser is responsible for maintaining strong, productive relationships with all customers to facilitate sales. The Retail Merchandiser will be expected to meet the merchandising standards established in the Structured Sales Processes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: A Retail Merchandiser is responsible for getting the products from the back stock room of the business to the location required by the customer. In that process, he is required to lift and/or otherwise manipulate weights ranging from 15 lbs. (a case of 24 12-oz. cans) up to 42 lbs. (a case of 12 40-oz. bottles). Products are moved in a variety of ways. For example, cases of products may be individually picked up and stacked on a two-wheeled dolly and then pushed throughout a store. A full pallet containing various products may be moved throughout a store using a manual or electric pallet jack. The RM would occasionally assist with unloading product from the delivery truck, as well, which would involve climbing into and down out of the delivery trailer, and lifting and carrying products. Retail Merchandisers also rotate products already in inventory inside the stores (this means older beer must be moved to put the newer beer on the bottom, so the older beer has to be moved back up on top of the newer beer in order to make sure the oldest products are on top so they will be used first before they reach their expiration date). In addition, RMs are responsible for filling cooler shelves and building stand-alone displays of products, which involves lifting, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and sometimes climbing. Thus, in the course of their work day, RMs face a variety of conditions; for example, there may be steps or thresholds to navigate, and shelves or platforms to maneuver around, while pushing or pulling a cart or dolly full of products. This work is performed in a variety of areas, necessitating the ability to withstand frequent temperature changes, such as going from the stock room which may be very hot, to the store cooler, which is kept very cold. This would be repeated over and over until all beer is stocked and rotated for all of the accounts on that route each day. RMs must maintain a pace of work that enables them to complete their route in a reasonable amount of time, typically around 10 hours per day, but it can be more or less depending on the needs of the day. This is a very physically-demanding, fast-paced job.
