What are the responsibilities and job description for the Claims Assistant (Workers Compensation) position at TRISTAR RISK MANAGEMENT?

POSITION SUMMARY: Under close supervision performs clerical and data entry tasks that assist in administration of workers’ compensation claims.

This position requires considerable interaction on the phone with claimants, doctors, employers, investigators, attorneys and with management, other Claims Examiners, and other TRISTAR staff in the office; therefore consistently being at work in the office, in a timely manner, is inherently required of this position. Position also requires check printing duties on a daily basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • New Claims Input / set up claims
  • Assists with calls on Light Duty claims,
  • Includes but is not limited to working with schedule pays
  • Compliance with special mailing requests
  • Typing of PLN filings
  • Assisting with Mail processing and check printing duties as needed
  • Input payments as directed
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail documents as directed
  • Photocopies as directed by examiners.
  • Answer / route telephone calls
  • Prepare various state filings.
  • Prepare/generate /run some reports from the claim system.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EQUIPMENT OPERATED/USED:
Computer, telephone, 10-key, fax machine, printers and other basic office equipment

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT OR CLOTHING: Appropriate office attire.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED required, and one (1) year experience in the workers’ compensation claims industry (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient keyboarding skills (type 45 wpm).
  • Working knowledge of medical/legal terminology.
  • Ability to alphabetize and collate.
  • Proficient in Word.
  • Ability to follow written and spoken instructions from several individuals.
  • Ability to produce accurate and detailed work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Courteous telephone skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and due dates.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in cooperation with workgroup.
  • Must have a positive can do attitude.

a. Physical activity required to perform the job:


Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
