Paralegal Legal Assistant

This position can by hybrid in Long Beach, CA or nationally remote. Do not need to reside in CA if remote.

POSITION SUMMARY This position provides a diverse range of administrative and general legal support to the corporate legal department of a national insurance services group of companies. Primary responsibilities will be in the following areas : corporate registration and licensing, corporate governance, subpoena and legal notice tracking and disposition, research and analysis of applicable laws and regulations, preparation, and distribution of legal notices and bulletins, drafting of corporate documents and contracts as directed. The position will require proper routing and handling of issues and requests for information including dealing directly with management of affiliated companies. It will also require activities to assist attorneys including summarizing documents, analysis of data, legal research, maintenance of applicable legal databases, and organization of records.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assist attorneys responsible for corporate registration and licensing by obtaining and preparing documents and forms necessary to file and maintain corporate status and licenses with state regulatory agencies where required.
  • Assist, as needed, attorneys and others responsible for corporate secretarial and corporate governance matters.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of business services agreements by providing support in drafting, under attorney supervision, certain agreements, licenses, and ancillary documentation.
  • Assist attorneys in researching, analyzing, and monitoring compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to the businesses of the companies. Assist in preparing legal notices, instructions, and compliance status reports, as directed.
  • Coordinate with other departments and affiliates providing and seeking information on companies for regulatory compliance, filings, litigation, or other purposes.
  • Assist attorneys in documenting and achieving timely responses to matters involving litigation risks and compliance requirements.
  • Manage corporate files and a corporate documents database related to corporate, regulatory, licensing, and other legal matters.
  • Assist attorneys and other staff and participate from time to time in special projects as requested and as workload and experience permit.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

  • Excellent organizational skills and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate the flow of information within the legal department as well as collaborate with other departments and third parties.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented.
  • Working knowledge of legal terminology and concepts is desirable.
  • Strong paralegal skills, with a professional demeanor.
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Word, Excel, and Access, and ability to acquire proficiency in other programs. Prior experience with databases is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative as well as work in a team environment.
  • Education / Experience :

    Bachelor's degree or comparable job-related experience plus an ABA-recognized paralegal certificate. Prior work experience in an in-house corporate legal department or a law firm.
