POSITION SUMMARY

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Surgical technicians’ function under the supervision of a registered nurse at all times.
- Surgical technicians assist with the care of patients in the operating room by performing routine and delegated duties according to the standards of practice and policies of the ASC.
- Demonstrates knowledge and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Surgical technicians’ must be able to interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group.
- Cultural practices will be addressed and supported as long as such practices do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of medical therapy.
- Other duties include stocking, replenishing, preparing and/or selecting supplies and equipment for storage or use during surgical procedures. They also assist with housekeeping functions to maintain cleanliness in the operating room in order to ensure a safe patient environment.
- Assists in preparing the OR prior to patient entering the room.
- Responsible for pulling suture, instruments and supplies needed for each case.
- Assists during surgery as the scrubbed (sterile) team member.
- Scrubs and sets up sterile field.
- Maintains sterile field during procedure.
- Presents instruments and supplies to surgeon during the procedure.
- Breaks down sterile field at completion of procedure.
- Transports used instruments to Decontamination Room.
- Maintains instruments and supplies.
- Washing, assembling, and wrapping trays, general care of instruments when needed.
- Shares responsibility for the execution of the daily/weekly/quarterly environmental mechanical and safety logs.
- Assists as needed with researching and requesting new surgical equipment as requested by surgeon or as the need for new equipment arises.
- Responsible for maintaining reasonable levels of specialty equipment such as surgical screws, wires, etc and orders replacements in a timely manner.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Sitting/Standing: Extended periods of sitting and/or standing in an open office environment
- Handling: Normal office activity including, keyboarding, interacting with others, participating in meetings, extended periods of sitting and/or standing in an open office environment, use of headset or telephone for extended periods of time.
- Repetitive motion: Frequent and regular use of the wrists, hands, and fingers to make small movements such as typing or picking up small objects. Normal fine and gross motor control of fingers and hands.
