POSITION SUMMARY
As a physical therapist at Georgia Bone and Joint Surgeons, this position performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. The employee must work collaboratively with all staff in support of direct patient services while exhibiting flexibility and a “can-do” attitude.” Patient care is the key priority in this position. In this position therapists are required to collaborate with other team members including the physician, the PTAs on their team, additional PTs, and other clinical staff. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of our organization while always exercising the utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient and staff interactions.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans and evaluates patients’ treatment program in coordination with Physical Therapy Director and medical staff.
- Administers treatment program per physician instructions. Clarifies physician’s treatment instructions. Confers with physicians and medical staff on patient care issues.
- Appropriately prepares and maintains patient’s records, charts, and discharge summaries.
- Evaluates patient needs and discusses condition and treatment plans with medical staff.
- Recommends solutions to patient care problems.
- Educates patients and family in proper care and use of various support and exercise programs.
- Directs and assists patients in exercise, muscle re-education, gait training, etc.
- Assists other therapists in planning treatment programs and with overall department flow and operation.
- Performs and assists with clerical duties such as billing patients, answer calls, and scheduling patients.
- Maintains and follows department policies and procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infections control programs.
- Provides guidance and instruction to subordinate therapists, educating them on appropriate therapeutic modalities. Introduces and demonstrates new techniques.
- Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in physical therapy – minimum.
- Georgia state license required.
- CPR certification.
Experience:
2-3 years’ experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Customer service oriented.
- Knowledge of CPT & ICD-10 coding procedures.
- Attentive to detail.
- Ability to follow up to assure customer is satisfied.
- Maintain current certifications.
- Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
- Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
- Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required.
- Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
- Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
- Requires ability to facilitate prescribed treatment, including full manipulation and resistance.
- Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Sitting/Standing: Extended periods of sitting and/or standing in an open office environment
- Handling: Normal office activity including, keyboarding, interacting with others, participating in meetings, extended periods of sitting and/or standing in an open office environment, use of headset or telephone for extended periods of time.
- Repetitive motion: Frequent and regular use of the wrists, hands, and fingers to make small movements such as typing or picking up small objects. Normal fine and gross motor control of fingers and hands.
