Role : Windows / Network Administrator I
Location : 30 Douglas Drive, Martinez, CA
Duration : 6 months Contract to Hire
Overview : Network Administrator I This is the first level in the Network Administrator series. Work is generally performed independently within established procedures and direction is received by the Network Administrator / Analyst II or higher classification. Incumbents work with only occasional instruction or assistance and have limited latitude in determining work methods and assignment requirements. Performance is measured by completion of work in an accurate and timely manner. Work is reviewed upon completion and for overall results. Incumbents may provide work direction and support to clerical and / or technical staff.
Administrator skills : Active Directory, Office 365 Administration, & Tanium (endpoint management tool).
Experience with building / supporting a private cloud would be a bonus.
Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in computer science, information processing or a closely related field.
Network Administrator I :
Experience : Three (3) years of full-time or its equivalent experience in designing, installing, and helping to maintain complex multi-site Network Server Operating Systems, Systems administration including storage, virtualization and cloud.
Substitution : Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years.

Typical Tasks :
Directs and coordinates the design, development, acquisition and implementation of computer hardware, storage, software and data communications solutions that will meet the needs of the department
Monitors and maintains computer servers, Storage Area Networks, virtualization technologies, cloud technologies and communications systems, on-site or remote
Develops, designs and implements problem solutions, using standard analysis techniques; and recommends solutions to resolve system issues
Installs and configures computer hardware and software; and services and maintains equipment
Implements computer applications for user departments
Retrieves and downloads / uploads data and assists with transitioning data / operations between systems
Administers remote logons, system security, data transfers, and remote activities
Maintains systems back-ups and control records; assists in the maintenance of files and libraries; creates logical directory structure; and may be responsible for retention and storage of databases; responsible for presenting storage to server infrastructure and administration / maintaining storage systems
Assesses and coordinates user training
Coordinates and schedules hardware repairs or replacements
Delivers training in new technologies
Consults with and advises program management and administrative staff on systems implementation requirements
Interfaces systems and data processing activities within the department and with other County departments as necessary
Performs system maintenance, security and removal
Is responsible for day-to-day systems operations, scheduling, and performance tuning
Monitors daily activity on systems, checking for potential problems, resource ability, performance and "load" characteristics, and systems integrity; monitors systems activity and usage to maintain a secure environment; and troubleshoots, repairs and provides viable recommendations for resolving problems
Interfaces with department staff / customers to provide help with hardware or software related questions, network or connectivity questions, and general assistance required regarding the systems, software, and resources
Notifies department staff / customers of changes, updates and new features
Is responsible for the implementation and running of back-up and archive procedures
Keeps current with software releases and updates for all operating systems, applications and e-mail systems, keeping all systems at current release levels, unless directed otherwise
Develops and maintains written documentation, procedures and help files which includes keeping existing documentation current as well as occasionally authoring end-user documentation
Designs, configures, implements, tests and maintains all LAN infrastructure, components, and connections
Coordinates, plans and implements network security measures
Reviews and refines security policies and access control lists
Manages and maintains the stability of the hypervisor / virtualization environment
Installs and configures Storage Area Network
Participates in network design activities, configures and tests networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software
Interfaces with vendors' sales and field services personnel to coordinate normal periodic maintenance and arrange for and monitor equipment repairs and purchases
May provide on-site technical support
May perform lead duties by assigning tasks and providing work direction to other staff
