Quality Laboratory Technician

Position Overview

The function of this position is to conduct chemical, physical and optical tests on raw and finished titanium dioxide pigment and its process streams and to similarly test paints and plastics made from finished pigment.12-hour rotating shifts to include nights and weekend. Also ensures the operation of the plant in an environmentally responsible manner in compliance with the Environmental Policy. This position is part of the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality department reporting directly to the Quality Laboratory Lead. Full-time starting hourly pay rate is $30.76. Tronox offers a competitive benefits program, designed to support you and your family. The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Perform chemical, physical and optical tests on raw and finished titanium dioxide pigment and its process streams and to similarly test paints and plastics made from finished pigments.
• Perform required work without injury to self, others, the environment, or physical surroundings.
• Judge the acceptability of test results to determine the need for repeat analysis or additional sampling.
• Record and report results of assigned tests.
• Compositing finished pigment samples.
• Prepare solutions used in the testing of raw and finished pigment.
• Conduct safety meetings.
• Perform required work and paperwork in support of ISO activity.

Physical Requirements

• Must have no facial hair that interferes with the sealing surface of a respirator which would include hair below the top lip (such as beards, goatees, or excessive sideburns).
• Regularly perform repetitive motions involving hands and wrists, and occasionally remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Occasionally ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, etc. and operating machinery and/or power tools.
• Constantly communicating with others to exchange information and assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
• Occasionally working in outdoor weather conditions, noisy environments, and with environmental hazards.
• Occasionally lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Natural science degree preferred.
• 3 years manufacturing experience preferred.
• Deductive reasoning and analytical skills required.
• Related laboratory experience is preferred.
• Exceptional human relations skills required.
• Internal candidates must have a MX or above on most recent evaluation and no active corrective action documentation

Located on approximately 3,000 acres of beautiful landscape in Northeast Mississippi the Hamilton facility is Tronox's largest titanium dioxide manufacturing facility. In operation for more than 60 years, the plant continues to stand the test of time by continuously growing and developing new technologies and strategies.
