Position Overview
The Repairable Spares Specialist is responsible for organizing and overseeing the repairable spares operations in a warehousing or stores facility. Contributes to the achievement of production goals by ensuring that equipment sent off-site is repaired within set timeframes and to budget. Responsible for ensuring the operation of the plant is accomplished in an environmentally responsible manner and in compliance with all Safety, Health and Environmental Policy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Selects suppliers and repair equipment based on best practice, quality and price.
- Ensures the consistent quality of repairs by providing equipment checks when repairs are returned.
- Ensures effective communication with site & repairer personnel to ensure that the requirements, specifications and timeframes for off-site equipment can be clearly understood.
- Assists in implementing a comprehensively planned approach to off-site equipment repairs by working with site & repairer personnel to develop scopes for equipment repair, define priorities, and identify equipment deficiencies and modifications to improve reliability, improve repair techniques and inspect new equipment.
- Ensures that documentation is updated including the upkeep of record management, equipment drawings and manuals and compile status reports of equipment repairs.
- Ensures feedback on high cost, high volume or abnormal repair activities are discussed and resolved with off-site repair providers and site personnel via the root cause analysis committees.
- Responsible for developing a process for managing repairs of equipment at the site/Region level including inspection of repaired parts when received.
- Responsible for working with maintenance/reliability to create standards for repairs & for selecting vendors for repairs by commodity to achieve best pricing, quality and performance.
- Responsible for minimizing cost of repairs. Inventory of repaired parts while ensuring service levels and performance.
- Develops a process to evaluate if a failed part/equipment is within warranty period.
- Responsible for scanning the horizon to find opportunities for developing partnerships for repair programs to reduce cost and inventory, while improving performance.
- Develops metrics and methods to measure performance of repair program for elements like Cost, inventory, service level etc.
- Provides feedback to the local reliability and maintenance teams and assist in the failure root-cause analysis.
Qualifications & Experience
- College bachelor’s degree preferred
- Five years of mechanical maintenance experience required
- Above average SAP preferred
- Microsoft Office, above average Word, Excel and Power Point skills preferred
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Problem solving and decision-making capability
- Attention to detail
- No active corrective action documentation
