Position: Mechanic Helper- Class B
Hourly/Non-Exempt: $19.50
Location: Pearl at Kalauao
Facility: 18-hole public course
Position Summary:
The Mechanic Helper Class B assists the Golf Course Mechanic in maintaining, repairing, and servicing golf course equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, and other maintenance machinery. This position supports the efficient operation of the golf course by ensuring all equipment is in optimal working condition and performing routine tasks under the direction of the lead mechanic.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements:
- 1-3 years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance, preferably in golf course or landscaping equipment (preferred but not mandatory).
- Minimum education: High School (or equivalent) Diploma.
- Basic knowledge of small engines, hydraulics, and general maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with the operation and repair of golf course equipment is a plus.
- Ability to use basic tools and diagnostic equipment effectively.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual, with strong teamwork skills and a willingness to learn.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Mechanic in inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing golf course equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, and small engines.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, blade sharpening, filter replacements, and lubrication of equipment.
- Ensure proper cleaning and storage of tools, equipment, and work areas after each task.
- Transport tools, equipment, and machinery to various areas on the golf course as needed.
- Assist in maintaining accurate service records and parts inventory.
- Follow all safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) while working.
- Support the Mechanic in preparing equipment for daily use by the grounds maintenance team.
- Operate equipment to test functionality after repairs or maintenance tasks.
- Participate in training programs to enhance mechanical skills and knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Mechanic or Superintendent.
Working Conditions:
- Physical activity includes prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Work is performed indoors in a workshop setting and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to noise, fumes, and mechanical equipment.
- Use of safety equipment, including gloves, goggles, and hearing protection, is required.
- Occasional extended hours may be necessary during peak maintenance periods.
