JOB SUMMARYUnder the general direction of assigned Fire Captain, participates in all phases of emergency operations to protect life and property through fire suppression and fire prevention activities; provide basic life support care and transportation of the sick and injured. Maintain fire apparatus and equipment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESJob duties and responsibilities as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the typical tasks performed. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed.Responds to emergency calls for fire suppression, medical assistance, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, explosions, and other emergency situationsProvides emergency medical treatment to sick and injured persons, communicates with on-line medical control and provides treatment as directed. Performs physical lifting techniques associated with moving patients between incident site, stretcher or ambulanceProvides protection of life/property; suppresses, controls and extinguishes fires; performs search, rescue, extrication of victims, and forcible entries; assists individuals from burning structures; ventilates smoke and gas from buildings; establishes openings in buildings for entrance, ventilation, or salvage; performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris; assists with cleanup activities;Operates the EMS apparatus safely transporting personnel and patientsPerforms fire prevention inspectionsPrepares, completes, and reviews various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, ledgers, incident reports, fire/EMS reports, run sheets, patient records, inspection reports, maintenance records, or other documentsMaintains EMS apparatus, equipment, and supplies Assists in the inspection, maintenance, and cleanliness of EMS and Fire apparatus, equipment, tools, supplies, hydrants, and grounds and all other Fire Department property to ensure proper operating condition; including performing minor repair and clean up Participate in and presents educational and public relations programs to the community on safety, fire prevention and other topicsParticipates in continuing education activities, drills, demonstrations, and classes Performs collateral assignments such as information systems support, vehicle repair and maintenance, administration, training, or suppliesPerforms related duties as assigned

Work is performed traveling between various sites and working under challenging conditions. Incumbents may be exposed to severe physical hazards including extreme weather, intense heat, structural collapses, and potential electrocution. Duties may involve dealing with fire environments, working at heights or in confined spaces, and handling hazardous materials like chemicals and explosives. Frequently encounter noisy environments, slippery surfaces, and traffic hazards. Physical demands are high, requiring heavy lifting and carrying, up to 100 lbs, bending, climbing, and prolonged periods of standing or moving. Exposure to hazardous conditions such as fumes, dust, and infectious materials. Safety gear is mandatory, and adherence to strict safety regulations is essential. When not on emergency calls, you'll work in more controlled settings like the office or Fire station.
