The Competitive Intelligence Manager will support firm strategy, business development, client relationship management efforts, and personnel management. This role involves formulating and executing complex research in response to inquiries from various departments, including marketing, senior management, and practicing attorneys. The Manager will use an extensive collection of internal and external resources to gather, filter, synthesize, organize, package, and deliver business and competitive intelligence that influences the firm’s business development, talent recruitment, and growth initiatives. This position includes day-to-day management of CI personnel and is a senior-level role.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze the competitive legal environment to provide proactive business insights.
- Monitor emerging trends in the legal industry.
- Provide both quick reference and in-depth research on specific companies, individuals, industries, business and corporate activities, and law firm marketing and business development trends and initiatives.
- Lead and organize comprehensive research projects to support firm-wide strategic planning and growth initiatives. This involves coordinating with various departments, defining research objectives, and ensuring effective and efficient execution of these projects.
- Create detailed strategies and employ analytical methods to handle specific intelligence topics of significant importance to the firm. This involves identifying key intelligence topics, determining the best methods for data gathering and analysis, and formulating actionable plans based on the results of the analysis.
- Assist firm leadership in vetting lateral candidates and their books of business.
- Lead and provide strategic direction for the Competitive Intelligence team including day-to-day personnel management, hiring, training, and mentoring of the CI Coordinator, Senior CI Coordinator and CI Analyst roles.
- Provide training and guidance to business development staff on resources and methodologies.
- Identification of new firm resources and maximization of existing tools within the Marketing, Business Development and Client Experience department.
- Comply with all ethical standards and the Economic Espionage Act of 1996 in all data collection activities.
- Deep knowledge of competitive intelligence principles, trends, and best practices, with demonstrated success applying these to work with law firms or corporate entities.
- Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel (proficient with pivot tables and formulas such as VLOOKUP).
- Proficiency with data visualization and data visualization software (Tableau and Power BI) beneficial.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to think analytically and creatively and determine how to implement relevant solutions practically.
- Ability to synthesize and distill information from diverse sources and deliver to internal and external customers in a user-friendly format.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer-service skills, with the ability to build trust and maximize relationships, while respecting confidentiality.
- Ability to function independently and effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- Four-year degree required, with a course of study in business, finance, or marketing a plus.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience and demonstrated success in leading teams. Experience in an Am Law 100 law firm is desired.
- Well versed in competitive intelligence principles, trends, and best practices as they relate to law firms or corporate entities.
- Power user with online resources and corporate databases such as Lexis , Westlaw Litigation Analytics, Capital IQ, Manzama, Leopard Solutions, ALM Legal Compass, PitchBook, Lex Machina; ability to quickly develop proficiency with new tools.
