What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrative Medical Assistant – Infusion position at Troy Gastroenterology P.C?

To aid in our rapid growth and continue to differentiate our patient experience, we’re hiring a Medical Assistant for our Infusion department. The Medical Assistant will report directly to the Infusion Manger and demonstrate working within a team and independently in a fast-paced office environment.
Some of your job duties in this role will be:
- Works under the direction/guidance from Lead Infusion Coordinator, Infusion Manager and RN
- Prepares office and paperwork for patients.
- Greets patients and performs admission screening for infusion visit.
- Utilizes EMR systems, updates patient information, insurance information, Infusion tasks and pharmacies, sends prescription refill requests, sends notifications for new pharmacies and physicians, and manages charts.
- Schedules infusion appointments and distribute/mail/portal patient laboratory orders per protocols
- Ensures HIPAA compliance.
- Document and track outside patient referrals
- Maintains inventory of office and medical supplies, literature, forms, and AXCSS.
- Utilizes access to hospital records to obtain results for physicians and ensure reports are in electronic health records.
- Manages and redirects calls through multi-line phone system. Monitors message line. Triages calls appropriately.
- Communicates messages to/from physicians and physicians assistants.
- Faxes medical record requests and disperses received faxes.
- Refers clinical questions to Infusion Manager.
- Work directly with patients and specialty pharmacy to coordinate medication delivery.
- Maintains clean and orderly appearance in infusion room and workstation.
- Able to distinguish emergency patient situations.
- Able to adapt and work independently and efficiently under pressure, with multiple interruptions and with a high degree of accuracy
- Accepts additional responsibilities as assigned by the Infusion Manager
What we are looking for in a candidate:
- High school diploma/GED
- 2 years college/associate degree preferred.
- One year of medical office experience is preferred.
- Patient care experience preferred (MA, CNA,EMT, ER technician)
- Basic understanding of medical terminology
- Certification in CPR and First Aid
- Must be able to travel between our Rochester Hills and Macomb, MI facility sites
- Must successfully pass a background check and a drug screening.
