What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor position at Troy University?
The Academic Advisor position in the Student Success Center is responsible for:
- Advising students on degree requirements
- Explaining transfer credit policies
- Computing GPA
- Guiding students as they access program, evaluation, and student planning;
- Guiding First-year, Conditional, Undecided, and At-risk, and other (students as deemed necessary by the campus VC) students to succeed in college
- Providing and coordinating academic advisement services that promote student retention
- Working closely with Enrollment Management, Student Services, Student Support Services, Career Services, Testing Center, Student Success Services, Disability Services, and Office of the Registrar
- Maintaining accurate and well-organized advisement/retention student records
- Understanding potential frustration involved for non-traditional students
- Creating a warm, friendly, and helpful environment for advising students
- May be called upon to support and/or collaborate as team with other service areas of the Center for Student Success as directed by the Director of Center for Student Success
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in counseling, advising, mentoring, reporting, and records maintenance in a higher education environment
- Master’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, or related field
- Experience working with college students in a non-traditional student setting
- Good interpersonal relations skills
- Good computer skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong team work and collaboration skills
