The Vision Rehabilitation Assistant position is responsible for:
- Ability to read and write fluently
- Ability to interact with public in a positive manner (over the phone and in person).
- Ability to travel including statewide travel and some overnight trips.
- Ability to transport visually impaired professional and dog guide to appointments, etc.
- Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate early or late afternoon appointments.
- Ability to lift approximately 20 – 25 pounds
- Function as an assistant to a Rehabilitation Professional to include providing reader services, completing intake forms and job applications, and scheduling appointments
- Provide follow up services to consumers as prescribed the by the Rehabilitation Professional
- Provide feedback and reports to the Rehabilitation Professional regarding consumer behavior and goal achievement
- Assist with ensuring that adaptive equipment prescribed to and instructed in the use of by the Rehabilitation Professional to the consumer is being utilized
- Assist with creating and sending correspondence, filing, scanning and indexing documents
- Schedule appointments and manage Outlook Calendar for Rehabilitation Professional
- Prefer knowledge and experience in working with persons who are blind and/or low vision, but not required
- Prefer knowledge and proficiency using Microsoft Office Software
- Provide light clerical duties assigned by the Rehabilitation Professional
- Assist with Switchboard backup
- Other related duties as assigned
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must have valid Alabama Driver’s License.
- Must have a safe and dependable automobile with comprehensive insurance for use on the job and provide proof of insurance.
- Candidate must be able to meet and maintain the below minimum automobile insurance policy as follows:
- Liability: $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, $25,000 property
- The successful applicant must submit to a criminal history background information check including but not limited to FBI and ABI record repositories.
- Experience working with individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
