SUMMARY
Trudeau Institute, an internationally acclaimed, path-breaking research institute focused on combating infectious disease, has recently expanded to develop the Trudeau Research Network, consisting of productive, collaborative and strategic inter-disciplinary partnerships, including New York State, biomedical research institutions, biopharma/biotech, and major foundations, with Trudeau as a hub. The Institute engages in multi-disciplinary research devoted to translating the advances of basic science into new strategies to meet today’s urgent infectious disease challenges.
The Trudeau Institute has an immediate opening for an Instrument and Building Systems Support Technician. The successful candidate will handle a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the organization’s computer systems.
Position Overview
It is the responsibility of the Instrument and Building Systems Support Technician to troubleshoot, maintain, repair and install instrumentation, laboratory equipment, and support systems that are critical to the science performed at the Trudeau Institute.
The successful candidate will be joining a team of highly motivated maintenance professionals who pride themselves on their commitment to providing prompt and accurate repair and maintenance services at all times.
Responsibilities
· Repair, calibrate and validate equipment, troubleshoot problems, provide preventative maintenance.
· Work on a variety of laboratory equipment including water purifications systems, centrifuge units, autoclaves, scales, ultracool freezers, medical gasses, incubators, etc.
· Need to be an excellent problem solver, often working on equipment that is older and may need minor fabrication of parts and creative diagnostic techniques.
· Respond to routine and emergency service requests via email, telephone, page, or as assigned by supervisor.
· Perform periodic testing and inspection of systems and equipment to assess functional status and conformance with relevant codes and regulatory standards.
· Ensure spare parts are available or replaced when used/installed.
· Maintain a high degree of safety and environmental awareness.
· Able and willing to work a flexible schedule. Some evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.
· Be available "on call" to respond to after-hours emergencies.
· Develop and/or acquire specific skills for maintenance of equipment
Qualifications
Required
- High school education or equivalent
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant experience or equivalent education.
Preferred
- Associate's degree or certificate in an electric, electronic or mechanical related field
- Previous experience in a bioscience laboratory environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- General computer skills, such as word processing and spreadsheet development are essential for everyday operations
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals and relevant governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals
Starting Pay: $31.50 per hour, minimum of 37.50 hours per week
