Job Title: Special Projects & Facilities Manager

Department: Administration/Maintenance

Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Directs Manages and coordinates the design, planning, construction, maintenance and alteration of buildings and building systems, including science and animal facilities, Institute-owned housing as well as an off-site day care center. Responsibilities also include the direction of installation, repair and maintenance of scientific instruments and equipment throughout the Institute. Oversight of the facilities department and day-to-day processes and projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversees the facility maintenance programs

Ensures all facilities equipment and physical plant are inspected and in compliance with all relevant local, state and federal codes

Plans, budgets, and schedules facilities modifications including cost estimates, layouts, and contracts for construction and acquisitions

Develops long-range plans, conceptual designs, and capital expenditure requirements for the physical plant, science equipment and housing

Inspects Institute facilities and inventories scientific instrumentation to determine suitability and to revise maintenance needs

Oversees coordination of alarm, control, and communication services. Monitors these systems for effectiveness and suitability

Serves as the Institute’s liaison to public utilities, environmental and energy agencies

Oversees quality and manages activities of facilities staff engaged in instrument installation and repair, building systems repair, preventative maintenance, and grounds keeping

Oversees construction and installation quality and progress to ensure conformance to established specifications

Formulates and coordinates staff training programs

Technical liaison to instrument and building engineering service providers

Directly supervises maintenance and groundskeeping staff

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in technical and analytical instrument operation, repair and maintenance

Experience in project management, priorities planning, and budget preparation

Must have excellent communication and supervisory skills

Ability to work on multiple projects at once that have competing priorities

Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Experience with project coordination from start to finish

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE/ CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

BA or BS in Engineering with additional background in Life Sciences and 5 years of job-related experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will require accessing areas where current vaccinations for Covid-19 and Influenza are required, proof of vaccine may be requested.

Compensation: $100,00.00 annually
