Position Summary
The Construction Laborer plays a vital role in supporting construction projects by performing a variety of physical tasks. This role involves assisting skilled tradespeople, operating basic hand and power tools, and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized work environment. The Construction Laborer works on-site under the supervision of THE Site Lead or Project Manager, contributing to various stages of construction, from site preparation to cleanup.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist skilled tradespeople, such as carpenters and site leads, in daily tasks.
  • Load, unload, and move materials, tools, and equipment to designated areas.
  • Operate basic hand tools (hammers, shovels, wrenches) and power tools (drills, saws) safely.
  • Perform demolition work, site clean-up, debris removal, and disposal.
  • Prepare construction sites by setting up barriers, signage, scaffolding, and other temporary structures.
  • Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, or other materials as required.
  • Follow safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and report any issues or hazards to the site supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • Basic Construction Methods: Understanding fundamental construction processes like site preparation, material handling, and demolition.
  • Safety Procedures: Familiarity with safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), basic first aid, and hazard identification.
  • Material Handling: Awareness of different construction materials, such as concrete, wood, steel, and how to safely load, unload, and move them.
  • Basic Measurements: Understanding how to read simple measurements and use measuring tapes or levels for tasks like marking, cutting, or leveling surfaces.
  • Site Preparation & Cleanup: Knowledge of setting up work sites (e.g., erecting barriers, scaffolding) and cleaning up debris, tools, and materials after tasks.
  • Physical Strength & Stamina: Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 75 lbs), operate tools, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Basic Tool Operation: Competence in using hand tools (e.g., hammers, shovels) and basic power tools (e.g., drills, saws).
  • Teamwork: Ability to work cooperatively with other crew members, following instructions from supervisors and supporting skilled tradespeople.
  • Problem-Solving: Quick thinking to handle unexpected issues, such as equipment malfunctions or adapting to changes in site conditions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring accuracy in measurements, site setup, and adherence to safety standards.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage time efficiently, ensuring tasks are completed promptly and projects stay on schedule.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to perform a wide range of tasks, often in changing or challenging conditions, including various weather situations.

Advancement
There is always room for advancement at TBB. Vertically, the next step of advancement from Construction Laborer to Apprentice General Carpenter.

Schedule and Pay

  • Our service area includes Whatcom, Skagit, Island, and San Juan Counties. While we make every effort to assign crews to construction projects located near their homes, employees must be prepared to travel to work anywhere within our service area.
  • Full-time, hourly, 40 hrs/wk. Overtime pay occasionally available.
  • Field employees work Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm
  • Pay range, health insurance, paid time off (PTO), sick pay, and other benefits are listed in the Benefits Package.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
