Job Summary

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for key accounting and reporting functions within the organization including budgeting, forecasting, regulatory reporting, internal controls, risk management and compliance. Works collaboratively with the CEO and the leadership team to contribute to the effective, efficient operation of the organization. This position has oversight and management of the accounting department which includes accounting, analysis, grant compliance and financial development for the organization. Responsible for operating effectively across functional boundaries, building and sustaining external and internal relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, direction, and management of the finance team.
• Issue timely and complete financial statements and budget comparisons to permit informed judgments and decisions by management.
• Provides financial analysis as needed for capital investments, leases, pricing decisions and contract negotiations
• Manages the production and distribution of the annual budget and periodic forecasts.
• Prepares and distributes financial statements and budgetary comparisons monthly.
• Compiles, calculates and issues financial and operating metrics in a timely manner.
• Completes reports to funding agencies as required.
• Maintains a strong system of internal controls.
• Assists with maintenance of proper insurance coverage.
• Ensures compliance with government regulations and required reporting
• Organizes and maintains accounting systems and practices as necessary to protect the assets of the organization and support its mission work.
• Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with and the financial acumen of staff throughout the organization and creates and promotes a positive, collaborative, supportive, and service-oriented work environment.
• Participates in administrative meetings, committees, in-service training, seminars, and other activities related to personal/department/agency growth.
• Performs other related duties as may from time to time be assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Must possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to the organization’s mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CEO, the responsibility for finance and accounting and the ability to create and maintain a culture of fiscal stewardship, prudence, fidelity, and extraordinary customer service.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as budget creation and analysis software.
• SAGE Intacct and ADP experience a plus
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required.
• CPA or CMA certification desired.
• Minimum of 2 – 3 years in a responsible and related position.
