JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of the Residential Peer Supervisor, the Food Service Coordinator will run the daily operations of the organization’s kitchens in compliance with the True North Recovery mission and vision, Nutrition Program, USDA, local and state policies, procedures, rules and regulations. The Food Service Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with residents to implement the high standards of nutrition, food production and food services. The Food Service Coordinator will be responsible the oversight and leadership of all kitchen staff. The Food Service Coordinator will work with the Residential Peer Supervisor to ensure that all records, policies, regulations, services, health, and safety factor procedures of the organization are being followed. The Food Service Coordinator is responsible for healthy meal planning, procurement, facilitation of meal preparation by residents, maintaining health code standards, managing food budget and teaching budgeting, shopping and cooking to residents.
This position is contingent upon acquisition of building for residential program.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing companionship to residents and establishing a trusting relationship with them.
- Mentoring residents about nutrition, budgeting, menu planning, safe food preparation and storage
- Will work closely with residents in teaching healthy life skills.
- Works closely with nutritionist to insure state and federal mandates are being followed.
- Implement cycle menus, abide by menu planning guidelines set by nutritionist, preparation standard/serving
- standard guidelines, and food product development/evaluation
- Evaluate food items, equipment, and operating supplies to be used in kitchen.
- Plan for the efficient use, care, maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment.
- Recommend and order food and inventory product supply requisitions, as necessary, controlling expenditure
- Analyze food service operations for cost effectiveness

- Provide standards for quantity and quality of food prepared and served
- Verify that prepared food meets requirements for quality and quantity
- Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standard in kitchen and work areas
- Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals,
- recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests
- Maintain an inventory of all food, equipment and supplies in good order
- Maintain records, compile and verify data and prepare reports daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly
- Ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the Vita Nova at all times
- Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly Vita Nova staff meetings
- Establish and maintain relationships with vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of one year experiences in Kitchen management.
- Ability set and maintain healthy therapeutic relationships with residents.
- Food handlers card or the ability to obtain in the first 30 days of hire.
- Possess current Serve Safe Certification
- Proficient in Excel and basic math
- Principles and methods of planning and preparing meals in large quantity for Club Members
- Sanitation and safety procedure related to cafeterias
- Lived experience in addiction recovery with a minimum of 6 months’ continuous sobriety prior to hire.
- Active in personal recovery by participating in practices that support self-care, health and overall well- being.
- Valid Alaska driver’s license.
- Qualify for commercial automobile insurance.
- Must obtain First aid and CPR training within 60 days of hire.
- Friendly, Positive, and Professional attitude.
- Strong emotional intelligence and listening skills.
- Must be able to pass alcohol and drug screen.
- Combination of education, experience, and licensure accepted.
- Punctuality and consistent reliability in reporting to work.
- Efficient time management skills and consistent reliability in reporting to work on time and prepared.
