Description
SUMMARY: The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Manages outsourced functions and services for the Accounting and Finance team.
- Follows month end close procedures and ensures a timely close process.
- Collaborates with VP Finance to reduce A/R collection times.
- Knowledgeable with ERP system implementation and ongoing management.
- Develops consistency in G/L coding invoices for A/P.
- Accounting team development.
- Upgrades to accounting systems as needed.
- Alongside VP Finance, develops financial strategy, including risk minimization plans and opportunity forecasting.
- Improving efficiencies and reducing costs across the business.
- Stakeholder management to ensure control of company overall spending strategy.
- Oversees debt management and collection process.
- Adheres to the quality and accuracy of accounting reporting, policy compliance, confidentiality, including all items assigned to this position in accordance with safety policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Oversees the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
- Ensures that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and all reasonable discounts are taken.
- Ensures that accounts receivable is collected promptly.
- Ensures that monthly bank reconciliations are completed.
- Ensures that required debt payments are made on a timely manner.
- Maintains the chart of accounts, maintains an orderly accounting filing system, and system of controls over accounting transactions.
- Issues timely and complete financial statements.
- Recommends benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations.
- Calculates and issues financial and operating metrics.
- Calculates variances from the budget and reports significant issues to management.
- Provides for a system of management cost reports.
- Coordinates the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
- Monitors debt levels and complies with debt covenants.
- Complies with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Displays appropriate work ethics in the workplace and group setting which provides a positive influence on co-workers and works with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Ensures guidance and follow up is timely with department staff to ensure efficient execution is attained in department of daily workloads.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in related field or equivalent and 7 years of cost accounting/finance experience or equivalent
- CPA preferred but not required
- Proficient in MS Office Suite with advanced Excel knowledge, and other accounting software as needed.
- Thorough knowledge of finance, managerial accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures; Ability to balance and reconcile records kept and be able to research and resolve any unbalanced issues involved in the accounting procedures.
- Job costing or process costing experience; Understanding of LIFO, FIFO, and standard costing.
- Strong technical skills involving inventory reconciliation, cost analysis and month-end close.
- Solid decision-making skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment; Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
- Capacity to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently to meet deadlines, work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
