WIC Nutrition Assistant

The Nutrition Assistant I will complete the CA WIC Nutrition Assistant (WNA) Training Program requirements within 6-12 months of hire. The WNA I also participates in screening applicants for the WIC Program eligibility, providing orientation to new participants, and issuing food benefits. They serve as receptionist, greeting customers and answering phones.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This is an entry level job, first six months is training at starting pay is $21.00hour 
After training, the employee will take an exam for certification. 

• Complete the readings, observations and tests of the modules of the CA WIC Nutrition Assistant Training Program. Training includes Computer Based Training and In-Person Training.
• Answer and triage incoming phone calls.
• Greet and assist participants with forms completion.
• Screen women, infants and children for WIC program eligibility using the WIC database.
• Collect information for the nutrition assessment process, including obtaining heights, weights, and hemoglobin screenings.
• Instruct new participants in WIC Program overview, benefit use, rights and responsibilities, and what to expect at WIC appointments.
• Assist applicants with downloading the CA WIC App and logging into the WICHealth.org website.
• Complete required breastfeeding trainings and promote breastfeeding as the recommended method of infant feeding.
• Refer participants to health and social services, as needed, and document follow-up.
• Issue food benefits to participants. Maintain WIC Card security.
• Participate in stocking, organizing, and keeping common areas tidy.
• Support WIC Program Administration by assisting with workgroups, outreach, and other assignments.
• Implement and adhere to TrueCare and WIC policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) year experience in customer service.
• Computer proficiency, particularly with data entry and the Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Bilingual Spanish is required

Desired Qualifications:

• Associate degree in nutrition, food science, dietetics, or related field.
• Knowledge of the WIC Program and maternal child health.
• Knowledge of nutrients/foods as well as familiarity of life cycle nutritional needs (pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, and children).

If you are hired at TrueCare, your final base salary (within the pay range), will be determined based on factors such as education, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members when determining any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical to allow for future and continued salary growth.
