What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bore Operator/Locator position at Trueline Infrastructure Solutions?
The Underground Directional Drill Operator/Locator operates horizontal/directional drill rigs and locates equipment and product support equipment. This position performs semi-skilled activities related to HDD locating, and must be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures. The underground directional drill operator/locator is considered “high impact” to the success of the Company. This position will represent the Company in a professional manner while dealing with the customer and the public. Travel will be required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate the drill rig efficiently and accurately
- Pothole all utilities that will be paralleled or crossed during the bore shot
- Before the bore shot is started, walk out the bore shot to ensure all utilities have been located and develop a plan for going above or below each utility or obstacle in the bore path
- Verify existing utilities
- Fill water tanks with water
- Combine water with chemicals for boring according to the ground you are drilling
- Make sure that work sites are cleaned and cleared of any hazardous materials before the beginning of a construction project and before leaving the area at the end of each workday
- Locate the drill head from entry to exit without hitting any utilities at the correct depth
- Hook up swivel, reamer, and pipe product that will be pulled back to complete the bore shot
- Pull back the product with the correct hole opener and utilize the proper mud mixture to ensure that the product makes it from point B to point A
- Inspect and maintain job equipment
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned
Requirements
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Valid driver’s License/CDL Class A license or obtain one in 90 Days
- Must be able to read blueprints/job plans and construct projects according to the plan and specifications prepared for the job and drill so the shot can be performed safely
- OSHA certification is a plus or Trueline can schedule you for the course
- Must be able to work some weekends and evenings when needed
- Up to 50% travel required
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable and sustained use of your arms, legs, and moving your entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, sitting standing, and handling of materials up to 75lbs
- Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment, work in inclement weather, stand, and drive for extended periods of time
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment
