Position Overview
The Underground Foreman is familiar with preparation, methodology, tools, and safety related to the placement of underground telecommunication infrastructure for a variety of projects including municipal projects. This position is responsible for oversight of construction telecom installations and supporting the telecom crew for large-scale projects with an emphasis on underground construction throughout the USA. This may include digging, trenching, plowing, handling cable, vault setting, loading and unloading materials / equipment, and general project cleanup. The Underground Foreman is considered “high impact” to the success of the company. This position represents Trueline in a professional manner while dealing with the customer and the public. This position reports to the Construction Supervisor or Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead an underground crew consisting of 2-3 laborers, operators, and / or flaggers
- Oversee and perform construction related activities including digging with a shovel, trenching, plowing, fiber blowing, cable handling, setting vaults, pulling a rope, using common hand tools, and general cleanup activities
- Assist as required in all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the Supervisor & / or Manager
- Operate outdoor equipment including track hoes, backhoes, cable plows, trenchers, directional drills, digger derricks, skid steers, etc
- Stock truck with materials to ensure adequate supply for work assignments
- Complete daily equipment safety inspections and maintenance check
- Conduct preventative maintenance and care on vehicles and equipment
- Set-up traffic controls and flag or direct traffic as needed
- Perform work in a safe manner and comply with all established company safety policies and procedures
- Utilize good listening and verbal communications skills
- Promotes a ‘safety first’ attitude and requires strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures
- Displays a professional and courteous attitude toward coworkers, supervisors, and the general public at all times
- Wear proper safety apparel, which includes : hard hats (when exiting truck on any worksite) where required, DOT reflective work vest, and proper footwear (boots)
- Provides meticulously accurate daily, weekly, and monthly crew production reporting
- Create accurate redlines of construction work performed
- Partner with the Construction Manager to achieve project goals and construction efforts
- Provides daily production reporting via tablet
- Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned
